About this Boat

A rare and unique opportunity to purchase a British classic! We are thrilled to offer our Powles Gentleman’s Launch – Cleome. She has never been kept outside based and stored in a private wet shed since 1996 as well as being taken out of the water and being freshly Antifouled annually as well as a full engine service, the last being August of 2024.

Originally built with cabin she was requisitioned by His Majesty’s Government during World War II and she was stationed on Barton Broad with a large machine gun fitted to her bow as a deterrent to prevent German seaplanes (floatplanes) from trying to land on the Norfolk Broads as a possible invasion tactic. After the war she was in the ownership of the Home Guards where she patrolled the River Thurne from the end of 1945 – 1948 and then sold back to the private sector finally ending up with her current owner who has lovingly looked after her for the past 30 years.

“The Waterside Marine Sales team of James and Lynne, provided me an excellent service during this procedure, I'd not experienced before. James suggested he knew nothing about yachts, more a motor cruiser salesman, but having sold me one, and then sold one for me, he demonstrated a convincing knowledge and understanding of the yacht world. Thanks again, Nick Poole.”
